ARCHITECT’S DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES AND BENEFITS.
Architects are essentially problem solvers. Guiding you through the choices and pitfalls of your greatest investment your architect can help you design your home to reflect your personal style and achieve your goals including budget. In addition to custom design your architect will provide contract documents (plans and specifications) and construction contract administration. These services are especially helpful to avoid costly delays and change orders. This assures that your home is completed to provide what you expect, on time and on budget.
For a home to provide a cohesive sense of place it must be defined within the fabric of its surroundings and reflect the owner’s lifestyle. To place a home on a site we must consider, among others, size, site features, trees, orientation to view, sun orientation and angles, access orientation, massing and structure and a sense of arrival.
An architect can tailor their services to suit your needs and budget. Within that flexibility there are Three basic scenarios to consider when hiring an architect.
First, Designing a new Home. An architect will work with you to design a custom home specifically to meet your wants and needs, make the best use of your site and your budget. Your architect will guide you through the planning, design and the construction process to assure that you get what you expect. If you have not yet selected a site, an architect will work with you to help identify and select a site best suited to your lifestyle and the size and type of home you desire within your budget.
Second, Tailoring Services. As a consultant your architect can help you customize and renovate an existing plan to better suit your needs, desires, including landscape design and site improvements. Your architect can then work with you to provide bid documents (plans and specifications) to assure you get what you expect for your budget.
Third, your architect as your consultant can guide you through unexpected adjustments and avoid costly change orders to achieve your goals and maintain your budget.
Both scenarios develop design solutions with the following criteria:
Our homes are where we begin and end our day. They must be secure, practical and efficient yet provide a sense of place that at the same time is both comforting and uplifting.
The task for the architect is to explore our understanding of comfort and develop expressions in architecture that stretch our creative spirit to find new ideas. We must keep our sense of comfort fresh while reaching for these new expressions. In the final analysis though, It must truly feel like “coming home.”
